Sustainable Systems: Weekly Reflection #6

My Reflection

Wow. I’m seriously amazed at how gorgeous all of these are. I can’t believe they’re made out of trash found on the streets. I really love the contrast of the subject matter and the aesthetic value these have because they look so elegant and beautiful yet they’re things people stepped on or spit out or used and threw away. It reminds me of a piece I made in my previous school where the prompt was “soft but deadly” which meant that from afar/ outside it would look a certain way but once you look closer you realize it’s a whole different matter. From afar, they look like abstract colorful sculptures but up close you can see all the nastiness that makes up these pieces. The scale also makes for a more intimate experience as you want to get closer to see it better which at the same time makes the experience all the more confrontational. It just goes to show how as artists we can bring out the beauty in the most unseemly things.
