Sustainable Systems: Field Trip to the UN

My Reflection

This was an awfully special trip for me because I used to be in the MUN club in my middle school. We would go to MUN meetings in Turkey and funny enough, I was the representative of the environmental department. We would always represent small countries because we were a small group but all of my best friends were in that group so it was quite special for me. It was really cool being able to sit in the chairs so many important people sat on and be in the room where big decisions were made. It was truly exciting and I couldn’t help but look at everything in awe. The presentations were really interesting. I think I enjoyed the first one the most which was the one presented by the ambassador of Denmark. I thought the way he talked about sustainability and design was very clever. He started by talking about the chairs we sat on to eventually talk about city planning and design in everyday life which I thought was very effective. I also enjoyed the two proceeding presentations by the New School alumni. Lauren’s way of teaching kids about these heavy issues really intrigued me. It was really cool that she would use her passion for illustration and writing to raise awareness to such issues especially to kids who can develop healthy habits from an early age to help such problems. I’m glad Timo talked about fashion because I feel like that’s a much needed discussion especially when it comes to sustainability. Overall, it was a very enlightening experience and I was really grateful I got to experience it.
