Intro to fashion studies post #2

The following advertisement is from a campaign by fashion designer Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs has often pushed boundaries, controversial at times of course. The ad features about six models, the main focus being a queer couple and Bella Hadid to the side. The other models are shown wearing more ‘masculine’ clothing and covered up while Bella Hadid and the model to her left are wearing more revealing and typically “feminine” clothing. This ad goes against the traditional gender norms of dressing and focuses on a non binary couple. I believe that over the years, the industry has begun to ‘destroy’ gender norms by making clothing more inclusive. This is not the case for a lot of fashion brands, but the industry is looking in the right direction, like Kaiser said “Gender is always under construction, socially and culturally speaking” (p. 123).
