Soft Sculpture

For my soft sculpture I was inspired by the many organic forms I’ve seen in soft sculpture, especially those emulating the human body in works such as those by Sarah Lucas

I didn’t have a lot of time to develop a concept but I had been wanting to make myself a decorative boob pillow for a little while and figured this was the perfect opportunity.

process photos:

The boob pillow is made of 4 main parts, the front bowl shaped piece, a flat circular back piece, and aureola (made of a front and back,) and the nipple. The aureola was stuffed with fabric and the nipple was made of several folded and bunched layers of fabric to create more dimension and texture. Once those two parts were sewn together, the whole nipple was sewn onto the front piece. To create the bowl shape, the front piece was pleated 8 times. Then I attached two buttons on the nipples to create a piercing and then sewed the back on inside out. I flipped it the right way then stuffed it with strips of scrap fabric and sewed it shut.

Finished pillow:
