Ted Talk – Resource Abundance

Ted Talk
Resource Abundance by Design
William McDonough
4/20/2020

Green-minded architect and designer William McDonough practices sustainable architecture on a massive scale. He has created buildings that produce more energy and clean water than they use. He is building the future of design: the NASA Sustainability Base and currently working on designing seven entirely new green cities in China.

“We inhabit the city with work/live space on all the ground floors. And so this is the existing city, and this is the new city.”

The passion and innovation William McDonough put on his work and planned projects are very inspiring. Not only he proposes sustainable buildings but he is already working on them, buildings that just because of him, they come with imagery of a powered tree rather than “just one more green construction”. In other words, his buildings, ideas, and goals are all working together, one unified philosophy: changing the design of the world.

“The solar power of all the factory centers and all the industrial zones with their light roofs powers the city.” This is one of the notions of his future city design, lifting the earth up onto the roofs and little bridges to get from one roof to the next.

McDonough comes on his ted talk as a reliable person, which also adds more credibility and transparency to him and his work. It is noticeable how his goals in architecture are for the better good as he takes into account all children, species, and the atmosphere, for all time.
