Stiff

The corpse or the “Stiff” has long been an elemental communicative unit of political performance. The Stiff, sterilized by repeated violence, is a currency that measures historical alterity. Using both audio and visuals as forms of dialogue, Stiff aims to communicate the violence that is inflicted onto marginalized bodies by hegemonic power structures. The video piece includes works of sound from Dinah Washington, Minnie Riperton, Imogen Heap and Steve McQueen’s Hunger in conversation with pieces of film from Charles Burnett’s Killer of Sheep and Géza Szöllősi’s Vagina Refreshing – all of which explore ideas of queer embodiment, entanglement, identity politics and body as protest.
