Memory Manipulated: Artist Statement + Video

For our stop motion video, Ellie and I decided to focus on a memory I have from childhood of swimming in a pool that had a view of the clouds out the window. To manipulate the memory, we decided to create a two-step transformation of the pool into the ocean, and the ocean into the the sky. We wanted to focus on the changing background and colors, and less on the reactions of the person, so we decided to have her faceless. We created our set out of paper, in order to easily move and manipulate it, as well as be able to change the textures of our sets throughout the film, as things transform. We also attempted to use camera angles to change sense of perspective, and give the viewers a magical sense of change and confusion.
