When I first planned to make maskes, there were many different ways to make base of a mask. However, I decided to make carboard, and thick paper masks. The process of my memorial was kind of complicated because for the paper mask I had to draw the shape of a mask on tracing paper and attach to thick paper. After that, I had to cut eyes part and side part to make holes. For Chanel’s romance life mask, I glued different color papers, and I glued little fake pearls around eye part. Also, I made ribbon flowers, and curvey ribbon decoration on the top of a mask. I did not make a container for this mask, but I made handle for it. The designer’s mask process is similar to romance mask. The different thing is that I sewed white thread to express Chanel’s quilted bag style. Also, one the top of a mask, I made tweed style cord to express Chanel’s classic style. Lastly, for the poor life mask, I tired express her wrecked life when she was a child. I used Chanel’s main colors: black, white, and beige(brown) to have her style on a container as well.
When I drew ten sketches, I just drew some idea that pops up in my mind, and it was very successful because I got some creative ideas. It was good experience to make masks that are based on Chanel’s style because she is my favorite fashion designer.
I was inspired by three important parts of her life, which is poor, romance, and style. I designed mermorial masks inspired by Chanel’s classic and gorgeous design. The challenge I had was to make a container because it was hard to make a good container for different size of maskes. I failed to make a container for a few times, so I had to change my ideas. Also, it was my first time making masks, and I had to make three masks with containers, so it took a lot of time.
