Project 1: Second Skin

Pattern Drawing

For the pattern drawing, I researched information about animal itself and animal skin. It was hard to transform original animal skin to make new pattern. However, it was interesting to learn new information about why animals have particular skin. This step helped me with next step because I had to use this patterns to make paperfold examples.

Paperfold

For these six paperfold samples, I was inspired by two animal skin patterns, which is pangolin and crocodail. The crocodail pattern was very detail based, but pangolin’s skin pattern was kind of simple. The other patterns were designed for practicing different paperfold methods. It would be better if I made them more like 3D and texture on them. This was very helpful to make samples for second hand project. I got some ideas from these paperfold samples to design second hand project.

Samples

Before I start the finial work, I made three samples that are similar to crocodaile skin. These examples helped me to design my second skin a lot. It was my first time using wire and thread on paper, so it was very interesting to do.

Final Second Skin

With all the samples that I did, I finished the final second skin project. It was very challenging to me because of the materials that I used. It took a lot of time, but when I finished it, I really liked it. This project was very interesting because I never done this before, and it was wearable on my hand.
