Details of Final Garment
These pictures are details of the final grament. The short sleeves, A-line design for middle parts are the points of a garment.
The original form of my garment was summer dress. After I deconstracted them, I changed into off-shoulder top with short sleeves. When I first saw a pattern of the dress, it was very tropical and colorful, so I thought off-shoulder would look great with the fabric design. To remake a garment, I only used sewing machine, and thread. However, I used lines and detail designs to give different style of it. I only had to purchase thread because my friend gave me the cloth that her sister wore in the past. To redesign a garment it took little time because I really like to design summer clothes. When I remake the garment, it took a lot of time because it was my first time making a cloth. Also, I made some mistakes when I sewing them, so I had to redo it for several times. In FIT exhinition, there was beautiful red dress with off shoulder design, so I inspired by the top part of that dress. In addition, I liked the exhinition at FIT because I can see the fashion trends and changes of women body lines in different time period. It was kind of hard to taking apart the garment because I had to be careful for lacerable fabric. The pattern-makoing process was very easily, but the height for my tracing paper was too short, so I had a hard time to draw a lines on it. For sewing machine, all students in studio class learn how to use it, and the fabrics are connect with threads. The machine has niddle and all the other parts to connect the fabirc. I enjoyed it when I draw and pin the pieces to remake a cloth. Also, I liked to use sewing machine, and I was very happy to use it because I failed to use sewing machine back in the time. When I accidently sewed wrong part of a garment it was hard to rip them apart, so that was the most chanllenging moment. When I redesign a dree to the off shoulder, it satisfied me because I never done this before. Through this project, I learned how to use sewing machine, how to do pattern-making, using seem riper, and the most excited part was that I can make a cloth even though it is not perfect.
