Before I make an actual garment, I made a sample with muslin. I changed my design because it must be related to my seminar topic, so I added cute sleeves rather than sexy fit line top. For the final top garment, I will fix sleeve part because it is kind of uncomfortable to wear. To make a pattern, I used pattern paper and applied my body measurement.

Bottom

For skirt, I did not make a pattern for it because I just had to measure the length and height of the skirt and cut it in rectangle shape. The bottom part was also measure after I made other part, so they don’t have patterns. It was my first time using elastic, and I applied a method that my professor taught me during class. While I make my garment, I pinned the skirt several times on a mannequin to make sure it fit to my body.

Hat

This was my pattern for hat but, to match my topic I redesigned it to be more childish.

Before, I make a hat I measure my head size, and during I make a hat, I used mannequin to see the fit of it. I also asked my friend to wear it, then I can see the fit and the mood.

WRITTEN REFLECTION

Kids to Adults

For the three piece ensemble for studio bridge four project, my original proposal idea was adult’s cloth that inspried by children’s wear. Also, I wanted to design a cloth that mom and daugther can wear it together. In seminar research paper, I wrote about children’s wear became genderless over time. My garment is not related to gender part, but before my final research topic, my topic was the history of children’s wear in United States, so it definitely related to seminar paper. The intended function of my design was to make a cloth that adult women and girl children can wear. For example, I wanted to make a same design cloth that mom and daughter can wear it together like a twin. The materials that I used for sewing are bobbin, bobbin case, foot, thread, pin, iron, etc. For the actual garment, I used yellow striped fabric, classic dark green color fabirc, and elastic. I learned all of these fashion vocabulary through this project, and I also learned other words like darts and seam line. I repurposed hat part to looks more childish, I added side strings, so they can be tied together in a ribbon. In addition, the shoulder line is very soft so it could be feminie and cute at the same time. My project changed a lot over time because I changed my semniar topic for three times, so I had a hard time to change my design. The first design that I did is not relate to semniar topic at all because when I design it, I did not choose seminar topic yet.

During second semester in studio class, I learned basic knowledge of fashion itself. In the beginning of this class, we researched about fashion related products, so we can understand history of fahsion. After that, we learned how to make a pattern with thrift shop cloth. It was my first time to use seam ripper and see how it sewn. Also, when I reconstruced it I had to use sewing machine, so I learned how to use a machine for second bridge project. These process taught me how garments made. The three ensemble project was the most helpful project to me because this time I made everything from scrap. During I finish my garments, I saw fashion design major people, and saw how they sew, make patterns, and design their garments. These experiences helped me to make better design for bridge 4. To improve the project, I would like to make clear stitches, stretchable fabric for skrit. Also, someday, I would like to do my favorite garment design because this time it must be related to seminar paper, so I had some restiction when I make the ensemble.
