Project 3 Planning

My plan for project 3 is a tangential product of project 2. It will deal with the same subject matter, being my great grandparents, but will explore a different medium. As opposed to painting I will go more into depth with the printmaking aspect of project 2, using etching and a copper plate to explore the obsessiveness and detail orientated approach I want to explore in terms of the subject matter that I feel painting did not fully accomplish. I plan on doing more with the imagery of houses, and the idea of home, alongside portraits of my great grandparents. It could potentially take the form of a comic-narrative style approach, as did project 1, but might become more abstract as I start drawing on the plate. I think it’s important that I etch the imagery for this project, as one of my goals for project 2 was to slow down and spend time with the idea of my grandparents as I never got to physically spend time with them. The printmaking process is inherently process based and time consuming, so I feel that it is a good next step in terms of my personal goals for this next project. Once I have the base image printed I plan on going in with some paint to add color and depth. My final product should be a general synopsis of “home” for me in terms of how I can capture that idea visually.
