Governor’s Island Art Fair

A large sculpture of a motorcycle made from parts of discarded cars. This artwork is made of salvaged waste material, as is most of the other work featured in the show. I was struck by the scale of the sculpture, and the accuracy of the representation of the object that the artist was trying to create. By assembling the artwork out of waste material, it exemplifies upcycling into something new.

Two artworks. One mobile made of discarded trash that could have easily entered a waterway if not recycled, and one piece of wall art made of similar materials and recycled wire. This also exemplifies sustainable material sourcing as it recycles existing waste into art rather than purchasing new materials. The exhibit also had commentary about water pollution specifically.

This exhibit showcased raw materials used to create textile in an immersive space. Sustainable sourcing for raw materials is a major element of sustainable business practice and this exhibit comments on that by exemplifying the quantity of raw material used for a simple product and the labor that goes into it. This was my favorite exhibit in the whole show as I found it to be a nice variation from the other exhibits.
