For these three workshops, I helped paint murals that were going to displayed in the community. Helping the artists and working with other members of the Lower East Side community was an engaging and selfless experience. It was nice seeing other members of the community volunteer and put their own effort and creativity in the paintings. I enjoyed that there were no guidelines or rules on how the paintings were to be painted, and everyone was allowed to mix their own colors and add their own color palette onto the paintings. The time I spent to help out on these Saturdays were very engaging and positive towards the areas that held these volunteer works. There weren’t as many people in these events then I had imagined. But in the future, I hope that many others in the community will be more involved and engage with others in creating communal art and raising awareness of sustainability in their own areas.
