Int Sem 1: Memory : Reflections for bridge 3: short story

Through the whole bridge 3 short story project, I learned and achieved a lot, but I also met some challenges. The most rewarding part to me when writing a story was the experience of collaborative writing, which is a new and interesting concept to me. I also learned the way that other members in my group think through the communicating stage. We shared our thoughts together, sometimes we had arguments, but the clashing of ideas was really helpful and necessary for improving the story. It was surprising to see how different the story was now than it was on the first day we were assigned this assignment. But things did not go well all the time, we had a hard time when thinking about the setting and outline of the whole story, for the reason that we need to make the characters we created separately (based on the people we interviewed at Washington Square )interact with each other harmoniously in the story, even if they did not know each other in real life. Also, language is another challenge, sometimes we needed to figure out how to write fluently and describe the scenes vividly in English.

During the brainstorming stage, each of us participated a lot, we came up really different ideas. For example, I wanted to write something about superpower and justice, Celine and Chan ju wanted to write a story about multiple personalities, so we mixed the different ideas into a new story. Then we divided the task evenly by the 5 elements of story. I wrote the beginning and falling actions, Celine wrote the rising actions and the climax, Chan ju wrote the resolution and ending. After completing the story, we correct the grammar and spelling mistakes together.

During the project, I worked hard and took every part seriously from creating characters to constructing outlines to writing the story. And the beginning was essential to a story because it could catch reader’s attention. I made a lot of efforts in oder to create a attractive beginning. Also, I respect to my group members’ ideas and I shared mines to them. Overall I thought my group members and I got along very well and we complete a writing in high quality together. The least productive thing we encountered might be scheduling. Because we all had different schedules and we were all busy. So most of the time instead of having a meeting, we just talked in messenger group to share the progress.

If I could do the project again, I hope we could have more time to spend on the story, to make it more believable and flawless.
