I created a different portrait in response to Opie’s “Cutting”. Her work takes people from marginalized communities (LGBTQ+) and portrays them in a royal sense. I created a portrait in this same manner. The what if question I used was What if it was recreated with my friends (also a member of that community.) The content is a photograph of my friend with a costume that mimics royal attire and a background with that same feeling. The method of photography mimics Catherine Opie’s piece. The costume I chose ties into the theme of gender, because the outfit and his gender identity contrast eachother.
