Yuken Teruya is a Japanese artist that produces artwork with existing materials such as toilet paper rolls, dollar bills, magazines, newspaper etc. He wants to convey the concept Consumerism and how it is affecting us. In majority of his artworks, he sculpts out flowers and plants. In order to grab his attention, I wanted to convey the same message but specifically focusing on packaging, thus the tissue box and pint of ice cream. Rather than nature, I decided to place buildings within the packaging to portray the idea that we are surrounded by consumer culture and our “happiness” and “survival” depend on it.
