I picked Kara Walker because the message in her work, The United States slave history and racist past/ present, is especially important today. Kara Walker works in many different mediums, but I was drawn most to her silhouette installations. Unlike the digital 11×17 piece I’ve created, Walkers work are physical life size cut outs on black paper. She is known to add lights or projections to make a changeable background for her installations. Walkers work may seem innocent and fun, but a closer look reveals the dark stories she tells.
