Public/private information

These are some questions we are going to explore in our podcast :

Who decides what information is public or private in news media? Do news media outlets get to make the call to withhold information from the people? What about when it becomes a question of national security? What happens when the public finds out public information was withheld from them? Who decides what information we put on the internet is public or private? Do we have (if any) control over it?
