Title of exhibition : (Undecided)

The words that came to my mind at the begging of this idea were – Unsolved, Daily life, Climate Change, and Public. In the world that full with unsolved problem, “Climate Change” is still one of the crisis that threatens our planet Earth. As a student, making a plan or combatting climate change ahead might be challenging but by having Sustainable System as part of my subject this semester made me realize whether you are inventing some machine, building an architectural piece or just deciding what should you eat for lunch, you can make a difference. Climate change results in many well known consequences such as global warming, drought, flooding and especially the melting of glaciers and icebergs. According to National Geographic’s article by Daniel Glick, saying “scientists have documented record-high average annual surface temperatures and have been observing other signs of change all over the planet: in the distribution of ice, and in the salinity, levels, and temperatures of the oceans” as it is used to be 150 glaciers but only 30 remain. “Glaciers are fairly devoid of nutrients or conditions that might support life. While birds and large animals such as polar bears might visit a glacier, only a few small, specialized animal are capable of truly living on these massive blocks of snow and ice”

Studio work Description:

The purpose of this project is to renovate the dinning table at MOMA located not the 2nd floor that will raise the awareness about climate change that results the melting and separating of glaciers and ice sheets. The Cafe named Cafe 2 is a first come fist serve casual dinning area for visitors, family and friends to enjoy nearby Italian foods. The area offers common seating area and espresso bar that visitors can regain energy after enjoying the galleries. As can be seen in the picture , Cafe 2’s original dinning table has a large surface area and to choose this as a model to raise awareness is suitable because it can capture a large of number of audience at once. In fact, since it is a dinning table, it cant be denied the the main focus of this scenario might be the food on audience plate but I hope while they are enjoying whats on their plates, this redesign table will provide both aesthetic and message about climate change.

Most of the table including ones at Cafe 2, the top sheet of the table is made up of one piece of wood. Inspired from the serration and melting of glacier resulted from climate change, the design of the table (in the sketch above) is contained to pieces of wood resembled 2 pieces of glaciers separating out from each other. The gap between two pieces will be filled by a piece of clear blue glass/ plexi board which resembles the water. On both side of the table, the edges will be labeled with the numbers of year in chronological order (1990-2017) and as the the year runs bigger, it is noticeable that the gap is larger and larger, mimicking the melting of glaciers. As mentioned, the final product will be in a prototype version which means the table size will not be in ratio 1:1. During the exhibition, the actual product will be presented together with the photoshopped image of the product at the Cafe 2, MOMA.

Seminar Manifesto Description:

For manifesto, the theme of climate changed that mainly demonstrates its consequence of glacier melting  in the poster format. The element that will be used will be again, in the concept of everyday objects that we see everyday. The following images (Below) are the inspiration manifesto found on the internet. Accordingly, it can be seen that I lean my interest in composition and elements toward the exaggeration of daily life objects using zoom in and photoshop methods , symbols and elements that has associations wit the theme.

Since in studio, the final project is to make a table that will raise awareness about climate change in illustrating the visual image that resembles the melting of glaciers,  it would be effective and relatable is the elements  symbol use in the poster is food or beverages.
