Space/ Materiality – Body Sculpture FINAL

After class last Tuesday, I started over and began working on a shoulder-pad type of body modification. By cutting out multiple triangles in carrying sizes, I was able to rap them around themselves and tie the together (separately) ensuring their ability to move.

After finishing the construction on my shoulder pad, I wanted to play with the texture covering the layers. Instead of cutting the cardboard up to expose the correlation, I utilized it as a type of tunnel and threaded yard inside of it, to wrap around the cardboard as a whole.

To further push the idea of a-symetry, I decided to only wrap two of the layers, making both of them a different type of texture. First, I wrapped the second to last layer with yarn, starting super close together and tampering towards the middle. For the top layer, I decided to make it solid, and wrapped the yard through every single corrugation. This not only added an extra dimension through texture, but it added a new aspect to the overall athletic of the piece, thanks to the contrast between the yarn and cardboard.
