Space Materiality: Collapsible Chair Final

At the beginning of the year, Steven told us that by the end, we would be designing, constructing, and completing our own collapsable chairs. Then, I thought, ‘what a daunting task… how the hell am I ever going to do that?!’ Now, over the past three months, I gained the experience and knowledge to do so and couldn’t be happier with my result.

I wanted to keep the chair clean, and minimalistic but add a new sense of modernism to it as well. I drew up a design that required no central joint, has two main structures that stopped on each other, thus creating a cradle to be formed out of thick chord. After stinging the chord though holes and staining the wood a deep dark color to contrast with the white, the end result is exactly what I wanted and I am so so pleased.
