Time Reflection

Time Reflections

First day of class reading the syllabus, I was scared to death not knowing how to use and digital equipment nor any adopt programs. With the fear growing inside me, the first real assignment the map project where I had to use a camera was a big stress. We learned the basics in the class. I listened with my full attention. When I got home I dis a research about f number and shutter speed and how to use a flash. It all cleared up after a while and with the release, I thought it would be okay to take the photographs after. After a couple of days when I was taking the pictures I realized that most of the information I learned was already gone. This situation forced me to study how to use a camera one more time. It didn’t seem like work. I took the camera and walked trough west village like a tourist exploring the camera. Like a kid with a new toy. All my life I had watched other people saying “We have to play with lite”, “Let me fix the camera” I finally knew what they all meant. I went back to home like if I had discovered America. I called my dad and tolled how fun playing with my new rented camera was.

After That comes the single image project. We had to take a picture of a transitional space to represent the time passing by  in that space. We had to cover all the space and the space had to be specific. I first thought I could do a crosswalk but results were not satisfying. Even though the “space” was right there fully seen, it was not like a space. So I moved on to subway stairs. I took pictures in a subway stair for about a hour, causing the security in the subway asking me what I was doing and how much longer if it is going to take. Being a Parsons student often means having to do awkward things in public. Taking pictures from thousand different angles in staircase was not the worst of them. Finally when the process of taking the photographs was done, we learned how to use Bridge in the class. I have never been able to organize my files neatly but the night after that I took 2 hours to organize very single image on my computer. I can not put in words the satisfaction it gave. I felt like my computer was deeply cleaned.

Third project was so much like the first one, we had to use similar multiple images to make panels and create a page showing time. In design entered my life. I didn’t get the idea first. To me it was like Microsoft world publisher and adobe illustrator combined. But later on when we walked trout the program in class I understood how useful it was. In fact I have learned many short cuts that I can use in daily life.

Overall Time class was always a challenge for me. Always had to learn new things. I always had to figure out how things worked  but now I know that once you start learning digital equipment and programs, they start to look like toys to play with. They become fun from scary.
