FASHION Studio : Frank Gehry Written Proposal

I chose the artist Frank Gehry because I am very familiar with his work, have attended various exhibitions dedicated to him at museums as well as visited many of his buildings around the world, and find his buildings overall enchanting and inspiring. Another big reason as to why I chose him is because I am interested in the way he manipulates form, the shapes he uses, and the way that his work is both structured and smooth/polished at the same time.

These were the aspects that I wanted to explore in the garments that I designed. When I look at the Walt Disney Concert Hall I see the sleeve I designed which features a double layering of cloth to create a triangular sleeve encapsulated by another, sharper and shorter, triangular sleeve. I also noticed that Gehry explores the use of ellipses in his work and decided to do so in mine as well, this can be seen in the skirt and boots that I designed entirely out of triangular, cylindrical, and ellipse forms.  With the sweater, I explored the sloping lines of his work and the parts of it which reminded me of hanging fabric. In the skirt and pants, I wanted to highlight the triangular forms which are prevalent in each of his buildings and finally in the cropped button up top I wanted to explore his use of line and angle.
