FORM & FASHION Drawing : Prototypes (Paper + Working Material)

Intent :  The problem that I am trying to solve with this project is the issue of concealing/carrying one’s personal items (ex: phone, credit card, cash, lip gloss, keys, etc.) when going out to a party or a club. The accessory that I am physically creating is a bracelet that has the capacity to hold and conceal items that would customarily be stored in a wallet (cash, debit/credit cards, ID cards, metro cards, etc.). The objective is to create a solution which possesses the duality of an attractive accessory and the usability of a wallet.

Statement :  The system that I am borrowing from is that of origami, specifically an octahedron. This can be seen in the base folds of the box which holds the items. I started with the same base as the octahedron and played with where I could go from there to create a sturdy form and ended up with a rectangular open top box. This part of the prototype was first made with acrylic but after more consideration, I will be altering this slightly (possibly by lining the acrylic with fabric) because the whole point is for the accessory to blend and only show its contents when aesthetically acceptable. I will keep the bracelet section in sheet metal because it is pliable and allows the accessory to be taken on and off with ease but will also hold its form when the wearer is moving around.
