A follow up visit

Assignment: Please visit the Church of St. Francis Xavier (46 W 16th street) and answer the same questions about the space that we were exploring in class:

What do you expect to see there/how do you expect them to look like — what elements will be there for sure?

Church pews, bibles, alter, cross, candles, stain-glass windows, lighting fixtures.

Describe in 5 adjectives each of the interior:

calm, bright, open, breath-taking, beautiful.

What does the interior “do” to you?

It makes me want to sit down and just be quiet and be in my thoughts.

HOW does it “do” it (be specific about formal decisions made)?

I think it is because the space is calming and is so beautiful, I just want to take it all in.

Does the interior reflect your expectations? Explain. Was there anything surprising that you notice?

Yes its exactly what I expected for a church for it to be high open ceilings with pews lining the interior making a path down the middle to the altar. And there wasn’t anything surprising to me.
