ASSIGNMENT #14 – TED Talks- Art & Design- reflection

  • Watch each of the three videos
  • Write your reflection on each of them – what you found the most inspiring in each video. How they relate to the relation between human and the surrounding (physical, emotional, etc.)?

1. Rogier van der Heide: Why light needs darkness

I inspire about Rogier van der Heide’s presentation is his emphasis on the balance between light and darkness. Because we know the function of lights, but we also need to discover the shadow or darkness of light. In my opinion, most of the energy on Earth comes from the sun. Significant amounts of energy come from the planet itself which is directly tied to radioactive decay. The core of the Earth is molten not because of the sun. Additionally, fossil fuel’s energy is mostly derived from the heat and pressure of the Earth, not from the sunlight that grew the organic matter.

2. James Turrell

In this video, he wanted to portray to the viewers a sense of emotion and communicate when looking and feeling the light. He used light, color, and space, with a special focus on the role of site specificity in his exhibition. Because different color shows different  feelings.

3.Hussein  Chalayan

In this video, fashion designer Hussein Chalayan claims that he shares some of his elaborate projects, showing how he defiantly and delightedly experiments with art, design, film, some different field things together to inspirit his project. For me, it give some ideas about try different sources or materials to create my product.
