How does the encounter with the “Other” shape the “self”?

Since we were little, we observe people around us, as we are growing up, we learn what others behave and somewhat copy them. The environment- others, play an important roll in our lives. As the saying goes “Things of one kind come together”, shows how people shape each other and become similar; and “Like father, like son”, says father has son that not only look like but also act alike. What a persons is like, part of it is the perspective form oneself, but actually they got feed back form other people to be more accepted to the society. For example, people love to follow the trend not just for themselves to look or act cool, but to dressed and act to fit into the fashion, in other words, to look trendy in front of the others. In this material world, less people have individuality and more people tend to be look alike. It is different being alone than with a group of others, once the others have a different opinion we question ourselves, especially those who have low self esteem. Always worrying about what others think might change peoples behaviors like being too careful while doing things. On the other hand, those who are strong in mind and don’t care what others think have high self esteem. In addition, in an environment full of others, people’s sense of being separated and distinct from others can make them have a stronger awareness of the self.
