The Space
There are thousands of trapped dust particles in between each and every crack of the hardwood flooring creating a dirty look that could not be cleaned by any mop that exists. Within every corner of the room, being that there are only three and a half, there is a wall that either pulls out or sinks in, depending on how you think about it. There are pipes lining the ceiling, I’m not sure what they’re meant for but it created a more industrial loft look. There is white paint that is not spotless in anyway. There is a white noise coming from the ceiling which you forget about the more you focus on the other details around you. Everytime the fifty year old elevator opens behind you ear there is a cracking sound and a slight tremble caused from the elevator stopping, and the tension between that space interfering with the space it needs to be within, in order to let the humans inside of said elevator, out. This imperfect space evokes an emotion out of me that can only be described as a space that feels like it has had many different purposes for the time that it has served on this earth. If you look towards the back of this space, there are two windows that aim south and face a beautiful street in Greenwich village and it’s a reminder that you may or may not be in a space within the most inspiring cities in the world, depending on who you ask. If you face the complete opposite direction there is an invisible wall that my teacher has asked us to build, but beyond that, there are faint noises coming from other students either studying the same thing as myself, or similar, reminding me that I’m not alone and there are other people I will be working towards my dream besides. Lastly, there is an orange ladder pressed inside of a corner of the corner within these four corners, and it doesn’t look like it belongs there but was probably used to fix something or install something or just for decor because this is art school.

I can’t stop crying and I don’t understand why. I think I’m tired, or hungry. Where did my mom go? Who are all these other people who kind of look like me? Why is there a doll here that is kind of bigger than me? I think I just pooped my pants. Can someone please change my diaper? I’m crying again. Now I’m happy again. I still miss my mom. This room looks nice. Is it renaissance themed? Don’t ask me how I know that. All these people around me look so happy but I still miss my mom and there is still poop in my pants. Now there is pee too. How is that another person sleeping? I wish I was sleeping! This is no fair. This room is really nice. I’m glad there is a chair twice my size. I’m going to sleep now, on the floor. Goodnight.
