My topic being Feminism, I wanted to express myself.
Women are expressing their selves nowadays and they want to be hear. We are now in a society where the “operating modes” are totally different. One of the biggest example in my eyes, was the International Women’s March on March 8th. I had the chance to attend and to observe a large amount of behaviors. It was a very strong experience, and that’s when I starting having a different look about it.
I wanted to do something related to this topic so I first thought about a few different topics ( fashion, feminism, racism), but then I thought I could really link Fashion and Feminism. Fashion has always been my passion, and I know that it is a very strong way to express myself, so why would I not do it that way for that movement?
I created the different shirts that really is to fight for Women’s rights. On the first Design, I decided to use the colors of France, because first of all it is my home town and I care about it, and second of all, I think that this movement is not enough put in place and being fought against there. I know that creating this shirt will not chance this fact, but I still wanted to do something useful for my country. I used a sentence in french : ” Je suis une Femme”, which means ” I am a Women”. It may not say so much in english but when I hear this sentence in French, I totally feel what is being said, and it gives a strong attitude. In front of the shirt, I used zippers, placed on the boobs. A women could decide weather she opens up to the world of just stay enclosed. On the second Design, I used Patched placed on the boobs too. I think these patches represent well what they are on top of. I used a zipper right on top of it that opens up too, to give the opportunity to women to show their skin a little more. Then. on the back of the shirt, you see “Future is Female”, with the two F’s. In my eyes in was really important to show how F are in process of being superior. I ripped the t-shirt in the back to show the ager that are in women now, because they want to be heard and want their freedom, as much as men.
To present these t-shirts I put them on models, and showed a quick power point about the trends, showing how Feminism is so involved in Fashion.
