Bridge 2

Post-Modernism became extremely popular in the 80’s, however, it was highly controversial at the moment. Instead of creating a new aesthetic, artists in the 80’s believed that is has came to an end of generating new styles. Therefore artists composed art works by referencing and incorporating art styles from different art periods into one painting. The Nefertiti teapot was designed during this period. The designer, Matteo Thun was inspired by Art Deco, Pop Art and 1950’s Kitsch (which mean ugly in German), and created this futuristic-looking teapot. Coming from this background, I’ve designed a poster that also draws distinctive connections from different art and fashion periods. This Asian- American girl is wearing a cropped top from the early 2000’s, miniskirt from the 60’s, roller blades and bracelets from the 80’s and cherry-print apron from the 50’s. The wall paper and long table were from the Baroque period. As for the poster itself, I’ve chosen the 1980’s pop art technique which  leans toward a simpler yet bold and graphic from of presentation. I have combined many different colours, prints and textures into this poster to create a more chaotic but a the same time, harmonious presentation to tie back to 1950’s kitsch style.
