Three Stages of Humanity

I was inspired by the idea of corruption often go uncensored, especially in people. Through many aspects, we are constantly packaging ourselves to become ideal. However, deep inside we may not be the person we present to the others. I found a similar quality in onions. It is very difficult to notice a rotten onions through its physical appearances. Its core is protected layer and layers of skins. When you eventually peal away its layers, you will then realize that its core is already rotten. We often disguise ourselves to protect what is inside of us; they are perhaps our fears, our insecurity or something else. This collage is suppose to make the audience aware of our tendency of running away from ourselves and our problems.

These textures are inspired by the layers of onion skins. I experimented with nail polish and created these textures. I started off dripping a few drops of nail polish on the paper in specific placements, then go in with either the applicator to smooth out the paint or a straw to swirl the paint around.

Then the textures are brought into Adobe Illustrator CC. I used the make pattern function in the software and tested with different placements. Above are the pattern I created.

Designs and Sketches

My initial intention was to export the below designs onto life-size scale posters and collage the images. I attempted layering the posters one on top of another then further adding more depth and textures by tearing through the layers slightly to reveal the prints underneath. However, my experimentation did not turn out as how I expected. Though this project did not turn our as how I imagined exactly, I am quite satisfied with what I have delivered in just a few days. I do hope to further test out the different possibilities if I was given more time.
