Week 2: Space and Immersion

What does a person’s room reveal about them?
Design a room that describes this person. What do they like? What are their habits?
Do not show this person/character in the room.

In my understanding, a room that is designed by an illustrator should have a narrative behind it. Who is living in this room? What kind of person is he/she? What does he like? Everything in the room will be part of the story, depicting the character of the owner.

When I do the sketch, the words that come to my mind was:

  1. girlish
  2. teenager
  3. gamer
  4. cyberpunk
  5. arcade

The color palette I was inspired by style retro, 90’s electronic color palette.

What I designed is a bedroom, so the main furniture is a bed, a table, a bookshelf, and a chair. They provide the basic function as a bedroom: to rest, to work, and to store. This bedroom belongs to a gamer, you can tell from the decorations: there are three video game posters on the wall and a desktop on the table, A desktop with a lightening screen, an arcade-style wall decoration(a rack?).

vision 1:

I found that even using a 3d program to do the model, the lighting and the background should be really similar to the setting of the photography studio. And you have to use multiple light sources to keep the image bright enough for details.

vision2:

There are still some small imperfections. And I think the space is not full enough, so I change the color and direction of light.

Final vision:

I think it looks better.
