Week 3: Book as Object

While I was researching, I found a pop-up book artist that I really like, who is also mentioned in the lecture, Robert Sabuda. His pop-up tells the story from the foreground to the background. What he made is not only a book, but every page of the book is like a stage that the chapter is happening between pages. Its way of telling the story really inspired me.

Character: Red boots bunny

Red boots bunny lives on the moon with himself. It was so lonely on the moon, so one night, he secretly goes to the earth. he saw the tall buildings, the church. Suddenly it starts to rain, and he can’t find the path to home. “What should I do?” says Red boots bunny. “Don’t worry. The clouds will go soon.” says the moon.

Sketch:

There were lots of difficulties: I was planning to print out all the background, however, my printer was broken. And I have limited-color of paper. So for this project, I tried to utilize everything I have most efficiently so it will work.

this was the planing background with three layers.

Process:

I made a sample base on the lecture demo, but the paper is too soft to fold, so I change the paper and redo it.

I made some improvement base on the lecture, adding a edge, I think it will looks better instead of tap on to of it.

I tried to make a little folded umbrella, although i didn’t use it in my final piece.
