Recitation: Mask and Materiality

  • If you were to create an original disguise for yourself (or for someone in your community), what would it be?
  • Or if you were a spirit animal or an inanimate object, what would you be? Why?
  • What context would the transformation take place in?
  • What are some materials or textures that would make interesting combinations to provoke a sensation or an idea?

I think their custom is not only a cat but also a reflection of their characteristic. since it is a musical, there is more narrative, and the disguise is also part of the story.

I did work with soft texture before, and I really enjoy the process. I do waving between branches and wire, combine soft material with mixed media.

Base on this, I did some research about:

These are from Moheb Zandi, who did a lot of weaving with mixed media and textile art.

It looks really interesting to combine different kinds of fur, textile and yarn, and wave them into one.
