Sculpting/puppetry

Research:

I find some 3d models of cartoon animal characters to help me define the way to sculpting. The lower part of the face should be convex so it will looks cute.

From observation, I think ears should be face to the side, instead of to the front.

Material:

The clay I use is a kind of self dry clay, however, it’s kind of hard the sculpt the detail. And this becomes a problem since it drys before I finish sculpting, and creates cracks. So I use water to smoothen the surface after I was done.

Process:

Head:

The first thing I do is to make a structure with tinfoil.

Face:

I left holes on the position of the eyes, and fill it up with eyeball and eyelid step by step.

Ears:

Although the clay I use is different from the lecture, it is still too heavy for ears to stand on their own, so I made tinfoil supports inside.

Facial Details:

I made some hairs by sculpting knife.
