Final Project (Time)

Instead of coming up with brainstorming lists or sketches for this project, I wound up developing my ideas through shooting a bunch of different videos and seeing what worked and what didn’t. Here are some process screenshots of the videos:

All of the footage was shot against one specific type of paper with faint pink undertones, which helped give everything a consistent color palette.

The idea was to create a video that explores the frailty of human perception, particularly when it is pushed to certain extremes where everyday “reality” begins to break down a little bit. The materials I chose were completely random: I had a lot of Listerine lying around, some leftover antibiotics, and my roommate had just broken a couple glasses. I liked the visual qualities of each of these materials, so I just played around with putting them together and videotaped the result. Putting all of the text animations together was the point where Time became an especially crucial element, since so much work went into creating only a few seconds worth of still images that, only when strung together really fast, created the sense of actual motion.
