“How to Build A World-Class Design Portfolio”

  1. The main points of the article are that one must put value over quality rather than quantity; to structure your work by talking a lot about it, create your portfolio with great visuals that makes sense with the context you are trying to convey, make it interactive, and show off side projects which help the viewer understand your personality and where you passions lie.
  2. Nothing in particular surprised me, however, I was interested to hear that it is actually a good thing to very descriptively talk about your work. Sometimes I’m afraid of overdoing it and making it unreliable but showing off what I’m doing and what it means to me is also an important attribute.
  3. Which statements in the article most strongly resonate with you and why? The idea of quality over quantity really resonates with me because I always try to think from this perspective. Sometimes you just want to show all of the cool and amazing things that you’ve done but its much more powerful to stick with the best pieces that you feel are the most defining of who you are.
  4. I agree with everything the article is saying and what it is trying to support however, feel as though “visuals taken out of context” depends on the viewer and their own experience. So this is sort of subjective to say.
  5. I guess I could say that I have implemented some of these suggestions in my life before. Creating my portfolio for admission I definitely kept to the minimum amount of artworks needed in order to try to put quality over quantity.
  6.  In the learning portfolio, I will definitely try to implement the idea of structuring my projects and trying to go more in depth about what I feel my works of art are about. Because everyones perception is important. Even if I feel a certain way about a piece and feel it represents something unique to me and my experience it could evoke something completely different for someone else.
