Field Trip with Demi

For our field trip with Demi, we went to the Museum at FIT. During our visit, we were able to look at the fashion exhibit (Force of Nature) they had on view. While looking at the different pieces, I instantly was drawn to this pair of Manolo Blahnik pair of heels that had a spotlight shining on them. They are referred to as “pony skin” heels and very well may be due to the fact that they are described to be made of several different animal skins. The toe opening resembles a hoof sort of look. They are certainly one of the most exotic looking pieces at the museum due to the intense pattern choice and contrasting red color.

  1. These are shoes designed by Manolo Blahnik, in 1998. Made of pony skin with a zebra pattern printed on to its surface.
  2. It is a design piece. I think that it incorporates beauty and design in one project. It is a design with elements of art based on the color choice. It is a wearable piece of art, which makes it a design piece as well.
  3. What appeals me to this is the color choice. It is an extremely bold piece which caught my attention. I was drawn to it because of the fact that I too enjoy using bold colors.
  4. I guess its authentic because of its value as well as the fact that it is made with real animal skin. It is fake because it is not zebra skin, that was printed on top of the original blank piece of material.

We did not go to the exhibit at the Christoph Niemann exhibit at the SVA Chelsea Gallery as a class.
