- This part of the documentary, an activist in Cambodia cries at the funeral of a young man garment worker who was killed by riot police while peacefully standing in solidarity in demanding a higher minimum wage. The man describes that the worker did nothing to deserve the bullet other than asking for a safe work environment and living wages.

- Monsanto, being the main problem when it comes to the agricultural workers in other countries growing cotton. They have a monopoly on seeds and end up taking farmers land. It’s a way for them to further profit off of people and therefore in the long run become the only producer of cotton and other crops for the fashion industry.

- This garment workers explains how after submitting a list of demands to the management of the factory, the workers and herself were physically assualted by being kicked and punched. Herself, being the leader of the group demanding safe working conditions and an increase in the minimum wage which was less than three dollars a day.
A) Create a list of at least 5 ethical/sustainability/human rights issues that you saw in the film. Understanding these issues will help you with the final project.
- The fashion industry, specifically at H&M profiting billions of dollars in a year, and still having factory workers in Bangladesh being paid under $3 a day.
- Factory owners/management physically assaulting women in the factory because they wanted higher wages.
- Trashing the environment in exchange for lower costs of producing clothing (dying, waste, water pollution).
- Workers demanding higher wages, for instance the riot that broke out in Cambodia for workers asking for a minimum wage of at least 140 dollars a month–being met by riot police and being shot at for peacefully protesting.
- Farmers being forced out of their farms/land/businesses because Monsanto monopolized their seeds. Farmers losing everything they have- committing suicide in some cases because they have nothing left.
I’m convinced that Monsanto is the root of the very problem in this industry as well as lack of social concern in human rights and economic greed.
