FINAL PROPOSAL – History of Fashion

I have always loved the 70s; from a young age, I have been obsessed with disco and the ballroom scene in New York. Although in the 70s New York was a melting pot of diversity and held a lot of social justice movements, it was also incredibly corrupt. Not just drugs and gangs, but also politically corrupt, many politicians took away money from underprivileged communities such as Harlem and the Bronx.  In this paper, I want to not only explore 70’s fashion but how fashion influenced the culture of the 70s and the culture of New York.

Harlem, New York – 1970

I find this image interesting due to the bright colors of the wear, but also that it is a mother and child. I have never seen much childrenswear from the 70s.

G man and Speakers at Bronx Park Jam

I thought this image was interesting because of the use simplicity of the color pallet, but also that it shows a large group of people within the realms of normal life. This is not a group of fashion connoisseurs, but a group of young people expressing themselves through fashion.

Harlem. New York 1970

I found this image incredibly beautiful because of the detailing of brides dress and the happiness of the newly married couple.

I loved the warm tones of this image and I thought that it represented the neutral and warm palette of the 70s.

Diana Ross and The Supremes with Ron Ely in Mexico, 1967

Although this photo is not from the 70s I found it very exciting due to the bright color palette and energy of the photo. I have another photo of Diana Ross in that shows her in the 70s. I think it would be interesting to compare these two images.

Diana Ross Enjoying a Rib in Bessemer, Alabama 1997

I loved this photo because it illustrates the aesthetic of 70s fashion, it is both carefree and decadent. I love how natural Diana Ross looks in this photo, and how much her aura has changed compared to the photo above. You can see the change of the aesthetic and mood of the 60s to the 70s.

yoksun topluluklardan para aldı. Bu yazıda sadece 70’lerin modasını değil, modanın 70’lerin kültürünü ve New York kültürünü nasıl etkilediğini de keşfetmek istiyorum. metin2 pvp serverler
