Martian Habitat

CHARACTERISTICS of living conditions

  • Cold
  • Almost no oxygen in the air
  • low pressure
  • and high radiation
  1. The volume of recently proposed designs is formed by using a 3d printer, which makes the habitat with materials collected from the Martian surface (rocks, sand, concrete etc). The volumes are created by using negative space for the rooms the humans will inhabit. They also have dominant and subdominant and subordinate forms in the structure.
  2. One design I like most is the cylindrical shaped design. It is vertically oriented which by study has less surface area which needs less material to build. It also has less volume compared to proposed sphere ones which require less energy form the 3d printer. Also, it provides more space since it is built vertically- maximum space usage. Lastly, what’s interesting is it is double-shelled.
  3. Its form is designed that way because it needs less surface to be built since it is built with a 3d printer which is more limited than humans. Being vertically oriented, it requires fewer materials, making it easier. It has one big window in each level that gives light to each level which is efficient and reduces radiation. it also can be moved because of the extreme temperature in mars. Overall, the shape responds to the overall living surrounding of mars.
