Response 1 – Climate Change and Cities

The reading “Climate Change and Cities- Part 2” talks about the threats of climate change to a city since every aspect of human life is impacted by it. Heatwave increase, heavy precipitation, drought, and cyclone are the 4 major aspects of climate change.  To deal with climate change, the author mentions that we need to find a new strategy, either by using old rules and regulations and enhance it or to totally change them. The author also mentions using scientific data and research to find solutions to the problem. In this case, the article provided climate risks studies that compare different countries and precipitation and temperature changes throughout time. They focused on the hazards, vulnerability and adaptive capacity. This study was done to several cities which are; Buenos Sires, Delhi, Lagos, and New York. From that study, they then formed solutions to deal with the problems specific to the city.

I agree that using data obtained by scientific study and by focusing on what solutions a specific city needs by research on; how vulnerable the city and what can be done to mitigate the problem, climate change can be solved in a more country-specific and educated way. It seems to me that using a multidimensional approach is the best way to solve climate change-related problems because it would help us understand what to do through different fields of study.  In conclusion, an organized approach to climate change and continuous survey and assessment of climate change for cities is the best way to solve the climate change problem.
