Cooper Hewitt Exhibition – Made by Rain

“Made by Rain”, a series of textiles made by Aliki van der Krujis in Wageningen on April 16, 2017 between 10:50-10-51 am CET; 0.5 mm rainfall and The Hague on April 18, 2017, between &;50-7:51 am CET; 0.6mm rainfall. The textiles are digitally printed and wetted by rain. Here the artist uses 2 techniques for printing with rain on silk. In one, he placed ink film under the textile which records the raindrops by having the ink seep into the surface of the textile as the rain falls. The other technique is by printing the textile with a layer of ink which then bleeds when raindrops fall on top of it.

I specifically chose this work because I was fascinated by how the artist uses nature to create the artwork. He simply provides and sets up the materials and layout, the rest of it is done with the help of rain. His Idea on the two te techniques is unique too because those 2 techniques create a different pattern. In one, the areas which come in contact with rainwater are darker and the other one is lighter. I also chose this artwork because it relates to me as an interior designer to be able to find pieces of work that can be the centerpiece of a certain space and this piece is definitely it. Even though it requires a little effort and time, this artwork turned out to be beautiful and organic which opened up my mind on the possibilities in making an artwork. Even though this piece requires a little effort and time, this artwork turned out to be beautiful and organic which opened up my mind on the possibilities in making an artwork. Techniques are really important too in making something because we need to be able to think creatively and think of something that has not been done before. I think this is overall the lesson I can take for my future works as an Interior Designer.
