El Jardin Del Paraiso

El Jardin Del Paraiso

El Jardin Del Paraiso is a special garden that uses compost or mulch locally produced by the NYC Department of Sanitation. This garden doesn’t seem to have a design, the trees and plants grow un-accordingly and the garden feels messy. There aren’t a lot of flowers and colors in the garden. This garden seems supported by the community because it has signs outside of it and there are other visitors in the garden. What is special about this garden is how it is not a pretty as the Parque de Tranquilidad but it serves the purpose of making the city greener and creating a system that fixes the city’s pollution. This garden is flat, it does not have raised beds for plants. However, it has a vegetable planting area, protected with a wooden border structure.

The garden has birds and also rodents, but no sign of pollinators because this garden does not grow flowers. There is no sign of companion planting in this garden but it applies the permaculture principles. This garden has some pots that store rainwater but there are no signs of other things that could collect water. This garden seems to fit with the surrounding neighborhood because it provides a space for community interaction since this is the only garden from the visited gardens that have lots of visitors. It is also involved in the new York government organization.
