Parque de Tranquilidad

Parque de Tranquilidad

Parque de Tranquilidad is a member of the Manhattan land trust, made in 1979. It supports organizations like green guerillas and greensome. Anne, a British woman was the designer of this garden, which is why the garden is circular- designed in a British way.  The garden seems to grow organically, even though the overall plan and layout are arranged, they do not control where the flowers and plants grow. It seems supported by a community because the garden is taken care of and is lively, they have signs that inform the visitor about the garden. This garden is special because even though the plants grow freely, they still create a beautiful place to be in. The garden is arranged in a way to have raised soil for some species of plants. It emphasizes trees and bushes, especially in the middle of the garden.

The garden has lots of faunas such as bees, monarch butterflies, birds, squirrels, even rats. It applies the permaculture design principles in a way in which the people live in harmony with nature. The garden has hoses, and the floor uses stones that absorb rainwater. The garden is managed by Utah and her assistants. It fits the surrounding neighborhood systems by being next to the people’s homes, that way it communicates with its surroundings. People around the neighborhood know about the garden but don’t visit them often. It is not known throughout New York yet, which is why there needs to be an action to show people the existence of this garden and its importance for the community.
