With its large population of Dominican and Puerto Rican migrants, it is evident that the two beautiful cultures and their traditions are vibrant and visible in Harlem, especially during the time of holidays and celebrations. Traditional outfits for girls include a dress with a wide and flowy skirt with a matching headpiece, resembling flowers, that are usually handmade. With my earnings, I tried to corporate that beautiful headpiece in a different form.
These two communities are known for their vibrant and flashy colors, a local even pointing out that its one of her favorite aspects of her neighborhood, thus the colors of yellow and green were used.
