For this assignment, I had to explore a common route I pass by in depth. This path, from Stuy Residence to Target is a path common to me, its striking features and areas almost blend in with the rest of the scenery. However, after the many months that I have been here, I took this route one more time as a tourist, as a first comer, with wide eyes and fascination. From the “piss-post” to the elegant church, this like 10 minute walk is full of wonders. I chose to do this route because one would never think just 10 minutes in the opposite direction lies Union Square Park, fancy shops, and The New School, home of the prestige and rich. That area is a bit rundown. Signs of poverty, literally yellow, on the corners. There are many vacant lots that have been vandalized and taken over as well. It could be because of the Power Plant on 14th st that pollutes the area, or many other factors, but it is evident that gentrification is occurring and will soon take over the avenue.
