As I Was Walking Down the Street…

As I was walking down the street towards Washington Square Park, I noticed how many more families I kept seeing. Babies in strollers, parents hand in hand, a dog or two happily striding along, and it made me wonder how East Village and West Village differentiated in social life. Living in East Village this past year, I have concluded that it is more of a commercial site than it s residential. It is crowded with many different shops and brands ranging of all types and prices, there are many corporate and industrial offices, and even its parks set up for commercial fairs and markets as well. It is definiteness a destination. People come here to work, to shop, go to school, etc. but many do not live in this area who do those things. However, West Village is a lot more quite. With its old roads and alleyways, original buildings and business, even on Friday or Saturday nights its lantern lit streets are quieter. The differences are remarkable but what is striking is their proximity. The two are merely separated by one street and the results are immediate. West Village is a mostly family and local oriented part of Lower Manhattan while East Village is a social hub.
