Value Judgements and Psychology Assignment

For this assignment I was assigned to create a diptych of an environment of my choice that is no longer being used as it was designed to be. I needed to enhance the emotional atmosphere of the location as well as emphasize the phycological aspects of the space as I depict how the space has changed through time. I chose Chelsea Market as my location and decided to show its development from an old abandoned factory to modern day in a charcoal drawing. The old Chelsea Market is dark and radiates a melancholy feeling of loneliness, this emotion that is evoked is created through the use of lighting in the piece. The newer market is whiter and brighter with a holiday light installation present over the arch way, this piece gives a happier and more inviting feel as the market is no longer dark and abandoned. The clock in the center reads the same time, but the images are seen many years from each other.
